Stage 16: A Chilled Moon Objective: Defeat Crimson King who seeks the Essences Enemies: Crimson King Recommended Magic: Soryu Recommended Accessory: Belt of Good Omen, Mystical Beads, Providence MirrorThis is one of two drag-down boss fights in Otogi. The Crimson King has several powerful attacks, but what makes him tough to beat is his defense. The King will block just about any attack (hand-to-hand or magic) that he sees coming, meaning that you need to find ways to get at his backside to do damage. Each time the King takes about 25% of his damage total, he'll leap into the air and away, retreating deeper into the level. Always have your camera locked on him and follow wherever he leads.First thing you need to be able to do is survive the Crimson King's attacks. Aside from some close melee attacks, including a powerful lunge, the Crimson King has three attacks which he uses most often, and with deadly results.Leaping Slice: The Crimson King will often leap into the air only to come back down with his blade, attempting to split Raikoh in two. To counter, the moment he leaps into the air, perform an uppercut attack About a third of the time, if you're quick enough, you can catch him going up and do some solid damage.
Clearly, Otogi sinks the proverbial Battleship (TM). Graphically, the game is stunning. The environments are well-rendered and can be destroyed as well (think of Red Faction's Geo-Mod technology, but with more style). The soundtrack is a gorgeous fusion of traditional and modern Japanese music. Otogi myth of demons of soundtrack. 7 years ago Kagajind. If you've just done serious injury to him and he leaps, it's more likely the Crimson King is retreating and won't be coming back down to deliver the pain. However, if you think he is, move out of the way. Get airborne and get your butt away from where you were.Crimson Spell: This purple bolt of magic is almost the size of the Crimson King himself. It's the most powerful attack he offers and can be avoided easily if you are ready for it.
The King often pauses before using the attack. Raikoh is most vulnerable when coming down from a jump or after a four-button attack combo.Fireballs: The King loves to shoot fireballs. They are easy enough to avoid. Or time your swing and knock them back at him!Avoiding is one thing, but you do need to hurt the Crimson King. Magic is decent (Soryu seems to work best at actually doing damage), but not reliable enough to be counted on. You're gonna have to hurt him with your sword and you're gonna need to use the Y button exclusively. The basic strategy for hurting the Crimson King is to dash after he's landed from a leap and try to get at his side.
The other trick is to leap over him often and hit Y while in mid-air for a powerful ground attack. You won't always hit, but when you do, you'll be slamming the King directly into the ground for extra damage. And then, the cheese begins. Once you have knocked the Crimson King into the ground, it's time to cheese it up to earn easy extra hits. Continue to leap over the fallen King, using Great Attacks to slam down.
Correct timing and accurate jumping allow you to continually hit the Crimson King as he starts to get up. In this manner, you can usually knock down at least a quarter of the King's healthbar before he retreats.
Repeat this method again and again and again.Unlockables Prayer Beeds: Beat stage in under 1:10. Easier said than done. You'll need to be at a high level of power, with level 3 Soryu or Genbu magic. This is a matter of getting in your high cheese attack pattern ( explained above) early in the combat and at best keep Crimson King from running away no more than two times.Providence Mirror: Found behind the red archways at the very end of the stage, where Crimson King makes his final stand. Drop off the ledge and look underneath to find the prize.Stage 17: Eternal Night Objective: Brave the darkness and deefat the Blackwing. Enemies: Axe Blackwing, Death Mage, Sentry Lionette Recommended Magic: Soryu Recommended Accessory: Bell of Cleansing, Belt of Good OmenThe first of the reverse stages.
This one takes Stage 4 and flips flops it, throws it into darkness and places you where you killed the High Priest Jyosei. Your goal is to travel to the other end of the stage and kill the Axe Blackwing waiting for you. To avoid getting lost, look at the map in the pause menu. The enemies can generally be avoided if you want. To earn 100% souls and an A ranking for destruction, you'll need to smash all of the candles and knock down all of the floating rocks. It's best to do this after you've obtained the Bell of Cleansing.Follow the pathway and eventually you will reach the Axe Blackwing.
Refer to the Enemies section of this guide for tips on beating this enemy. It can get confusing in the darkness, so if you are lost, remember to always follow the candlelight. And, of course, the map in the pause menu.Unlockables Phoenix Level 2: From the start of the stage, head straight and leap over the gap and use the uppercut move to ascend. Continue to head upwards until you reach the temple gates, where you'll find the upgrade.Stage 18: Darkfire Cave Objective: Put out the Black Flames and retrieve the Soul Cord. Enemies: Flame Blackwing, Death Viper Head, Blaze Ogre Recommended Magic: Suzaku Recommended Accessory: Bell of Cleansing, Belt of Good OmenYou've seen this Ogre-infested stage before and the goal remains the same. You need to kill all 6 Ogres, only this time the enemies are a bit tougher.
Once the Ogres are all dead, the black flames guarding the cave entrance will dissolve and you can enter to grab the Soul Cord. The entrance is towards the front of the stage, on the left-hand side.Unlockables Ogre's Horn: This nice little weapon is held by the first Blaze Ogre in this stage.
Kill him to obtain the item.Stage 19: Golem's Ravine Objective: Destroy the Omni Stone at the bottom of the cave. Enemies: Axe Blackwing, Death Stone, Omni Stone Recommended Magic: Suzaku, Soryu Recommended Accessory: Bell of Cleansing, Prayer Beads, Belt of Good OmenThis is one of the tougher stages and can be frustrating if you don't show patience. You need the Bell of Cleansing for this level.
If you don't have it yet, get it before proceeding. You begin the level facing a long stretch of corridor with magic-sapping black geysers and Axe Blackwings to deter you. Take on the Blackwings hand-to-hand and use the close quarters to your advantage by smashing them into walls. There's a hidden passage in one of the rocky formations on the wall, which leads to a Restore Magic power-up. This long corridor serves to lower your magic greatly. Don't let it.

Time the firings of the magic-sapping geysers and go through only when it's clear. The large room beyond the corridor is an upside down and twisted version of the beautiful waterfall area from Stage 10. There are plenty of enemies to fight in here, or you can just dash past them and into the next area.Beyond the uneventful passageway, you'll come across a series of three rooms housing the ominous Omni Stone. In the first two rooms you cannot harm the Stone, so don't waste your time (and life) trying. There are some nasty Death Stone's here to give you trouble. Be careful not to stay airborne for long or you'll be hit by the Omni Stone's powerful white ray of light. For those looking to free all souls and get an A rating in destruction, you'll need to destroy the icicles and the many, many, many statues hanging from the ceiling. This is tough to do without being hit by the Omni Stone's beam and requires an exceptional amount of patience or a great deal of Defense.Upon reaching the final room, where you will have your big showdown with the Omni Stone, head immediately to the back.
There you'll find an invaluable Sustain Magic pick-up. You'll need magic to take out the Omni Stone, a creature with two basic attacks. The Stone's first attack is a blue fireball attack that is fairly standard. The other is a very powerful white beam of light, which sweeps from right to left across in a 90 degree arc.
For both attacks, the Stone will pause briefly. If he uses the white beam, leap over it and then charge up for a big magic attack. If it's blue fireballs, dash left or right to avoid, then perform a B, B, B, X combo. The biggest mistake made when fighting the Omni Stone is firing your magic from too far away. What is too far away?
The entrance to the room. Don't fire until you get the Sustain Magic power-up. Then you're always close enough to do damage.Unlockables Dragon Level 3: Beat this stage in under 2 minutes. You probably won't be able to the first time through.
First, you're going to need to ignore all enemies. Dash fast and straight and avoid conflict as much as possible. Get to the showdown with the Omni Stone as quickly as you can.

Once there, unleash your magic either by charging up or by performing B, B, B, X combos.Stage 20: Inner Sanctum Objective: Defeat the Mist Lionette. Enemies: Axe Blackwing, Spear Blackwing, Mist Lionette, Life Glyph Recommended Magic: Soryu Recommended Accessory: Bell of Cleansing, Providence MirrorThis is Stage 5 with a twist.
This time around you don't need to destroy the environment (though it sure is fun) to beat the stage. Instead, your goal is to kill the Mist Lionette. The Lionette is almost completely immune to magic, so don't bother with that. Instead, you'll need to go for combos.
The beast does not get stunned, however, so you may want to simply attack with Great Attacks. The Mist Lionette was two basic attack. It charges and knocks Raikoh over and it shoots a fireball. The charge is harder to avoid and less predictable. Your best bet is to dash around to the sides of the Lionette to avoid the charge. After a few hits, the cowardly Lionette runs off to another part of the level.
As long as you are locked-on to him, you'll be able to track his movements. The other areas are protected by enemies, so you will likely need to take care of them before finishing off the Lionette.Freeing all souls in this stage follows the same principles as in Stage 5. There are lights up high in the narrow hallway to smash and if you've chopped down the secret wall in Stage 5, then there is a small extra room to bash up as well.Unlockables Mercy Orb: The Life Glyph is hiding in the secret room you found in Stage 5.
Head there and ferret it out. Destroy it to obtain the Mercy Orb.Golden Dragon: In the main room of the Inner Sanctum, bear left and head down the thin corridor. You'll find the item there.Chimera Level 3: Beat this stage in under 1:39. Focus on the Lionette. Kill it and the stage is done.
Remember that after a few strikes the beast will run off. If you have a lock-on the Lionette, you can track where it goes and follow. Use B, B, B, Y combos to take it down and forget about magic for this instance.
